This method of hair removal is considered to be an ancient Egyptian art, purportedly used by Cleopatra herself! It is made with sugar, water, and lemon juice, and cooked into the consistency of caramel.
Results generally last up to six weeks. The hair can be removed when it is shorter, at about 8-10 days of growth, unlike the 3-4 weeks of growth that waxing requires.
- SUGARING IS IDEAL FOR SENSITIVE SKIN! Sugar is naturally anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic. There are no preservatives, resins, parabens, fragrances or dyes. Traditional wax contains these additives and can cause reactions in sensitive skin
- Sugar paste wraps around the hair making it pliable. The hair is removed from the follicle in its natural direction of growth. This helps to extract the hair intact and makes it less painful
- sugaring breaks less hairs and lasts much longer than waxing
- Sugaring can be done on much shorter hair- requiring less grow out between appointments.

The Benefits of Sugaring
Learn the difference between Sugaring and Waxing!
Everything you wanted to know about sugaring and more!
Waxing and sugaring are sometimes confused or considered one and the same, but they couldn’t be more different. Sugaring and waxing use very different techniques and can have very different results. With waxing a strip is used to remove hair in the opposite direction of hair growth. The opposite happens with sugaring, the hair is pulled out in the direction of hair growth, sliding it out of the pore and minimizing turbulence to the skin. Wax ingredients are comprised of parabens, fragrances and artificial coloring. Sugar literally has three ingredients: sugar, water and lemon juice. Wax is also applied to the skin at a much hotter temperature than sugar. Sugar is applied at about body temperature.
Here’s why these things matter:
- When we remove the hair in the direction of natural hair growth, it doesn’t enlarge the pore and it greatly reduces the chance of breakage, which in turn greatly reduces the chances of irritation and ingrown hairs.
- Ingredients matter- skin is the body’s biggest organ so by keeping the ingredient list natural, we greatly reduce the introduction of allergens to the body.
- Using a product that is not hot completely reduces the risk of burning- It is not uncommon to come back from a waxing appointment with skin lifted or burned because the product was too hot. With sugaring this is literally impossible because the sugar is never hotter than body temperature.
Sugaring dates back to the civilizations of ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece. It is natural, hypoallergenic and less painful.
This method of hair removal is ideal for everyone, but even more so for those who have sensitive skin. The sugar only sticks to the hair and the dead skin cells on top of the skin causing less inflammation and sensitivity. By removing the hair in the direction of hair growth the pore isn’t enlarged or irritated and the skin is gently exfoliated in the process.
If you’ve been suffering through waxing appointments, now might be the time to try sugaring. Our clients tell me everyday how thankful they are they have found sugaring and no longer have to deal with the painful and embarrassing side effects of waxing.
